Gaynor Lougher - Artistic Director, Hijinx Theatre, Cardiff

Dear Judie and Richard

Just sending you warm wishes of support and a quick and immediate response to you both. Over the years I have personally greatly benefited from some of the wonderful and diverse workshop/ conference opportunities that you have organized and I would be sad to see your unique contribution to the arts in Wales and internationally disappear. I remember a wonderful, sunny weekend in Brecon with companies and people working in every nook and cranny, sharing their work processes, debating the work; I remember being in Aberystwyth when the whole of the arts centre seemed to become a stage with wardrobes that opened or moved and the strangest of culinary performance… magical creativity, theatre performance, process and debate!

The frustration is that these decisions on cutting are made for all the wrong reasons – they are finance driven rather than artistically driven reflecting the fact that as always the arts are greatly undervalued. I would be the first to admit that much of what you do is unfamiliar and strange to me but this diversity is a cause for celebration and needs to be encouraged and nurtured, not cut and discarded in this arbitrary way. We want more, not less of everything and I support your fight to continue to be funded.

With best wishes,

Gaynor
