Dear Julie and Richard,
I attended CPR’s “The Giving Voice” festival four years ago, both as a workshop leader and a participant. It was one of the highlights of my professional career.
There was nothing more enriching than being in the presence of voice practitioners, actors, directors, teachers, and scholars for a week that included discussion panels, thorough investigations, concerts, workshops and opportunities to share methodology from around the world.
As a workshop leader, I was well taken care of and the CPR’s astute organization was evident from the moment we arrived. Clearly, years of experience were put to use, so that the artists could focus on their work and not worry about logistics. The work in the festival was at the highest level and as a participant, I took away things that I will use for years to come.
I was also introduced to Jonathan Hart Makwaia, who impressed in such a profound way, that I managed to get a grant to bring him to my students in Seattle, Washington. This never would have occurred without this meeting at The Giving Voice.
For me, the opportunity to go to both Aberystwyth and to Cardiff was immensely enriching as an American and a traveler. I took advantage of every opportunity to go see museums, concerts, exhibits and landmarks.
It would be an unspeakable loss for CPR to lose funding and to discontinue not only The Giving Voice, but the many programs they have become known for.
Please pass on my unflagging support and my wishes for the decision to be turned around
Sincerely,
Judith Shahn,
