Michael Freeman - Director of Ceredigion Museum, Wales

Dear all

This is really bad news, and is likely to have occurred because the Welsh Arts Council has had its budget cut because of the lead up to the Olympics (according to one article I read).

It is quite wrong that an organization with such a good record should be cut at such short notice in this way.

There are far too many implications in cutting the grant without more warning.

Whatever the reasons for this decision, it is terrible that the existence of such a forward-thinking, vibrant, enthusiastic organization which has brought a new way of thinking about performance in all its forms to so many people should be threatened.

I would certainly support any move to have the decision delayed and independently reviewed (although the appointment of an independent review body seems unlikely). The errors made by the Arts Council of Wales in the past, their lack of communication both within their organization and with CPR indicate that a proper review would be the proper course.
