Dear Richard,
I write in response to CPR's call for support in the face of the impending funding cut from the Arts Council of Wales. I deeply sympathize with youand the entire staff and friends of CPR all over the world and wish to express my own perplexity about the reasons for the funding cut.
The Center for Performance Research is one institution Wales can be truly proud of. I would like to say that the main reason I chose the Universityof Wales, Aberystwyth for my PhD in performance and theatre studies wasits connection with the CPR and its place in the international community.
I have not even begun to explore CPR's resources and programs, and yet nowit faces the danger of having to downscale operations and perhaps even losing its connection to the University! I certainly do not want to see this happen and therefore urge for a sober and thorough reconsideration ofthe move for a funding cut.
If the Arts Council of Wales is serious and sincere about its pronouncements of support for culture and arts in Wales, the funding cut should not even merit discussion. What perhaps should be discussed is how in fact the CPR and the Arts Council can work together, or how funding of CPR programs can be increased in the future.
Sincerely,Jazmin B. Llana
Director, Center for Culture and the Arts Aquinas University of Legazpi, Philippines
