As a member of the community who has benefited from the work of Centre for Performance Research for many years, is with great sadness that I hear of the withdrawing of funding by the Art Council of Wales. When I moved to Wales some 13 years ago, I was very worried I was going to miss out on music events, but thanks mainly to CPR’s work, I never felt that way. When festivals like the upcoming “Giving Voices” come to Aberystwyth, the town gets filled with excellent musicians from all over the world, both professional and non-, making me and many others feel very lucky to have access to high quality workshops and performances. CPR, with its productions, training programmes, publications and festivals not only brings culture richness to Wales, but also places Wales on the international map.
I sincerely hope that the ACW will reconsider a decision that, needless to say, will greatly compromise the ability of CPR to carry on its good work.
