Dr Tom Maguire - Chair of SCUDD

Dear Richard Gough and Judy Christie,

On behalf of the Standing Conference of University Drama Departments, the UK Higher Education subject association, I am concerned that the current funding for the Centre Performance Research has been withdrawn by Arts Council Wales. Since its founding, CPR has acted as a nexus for academics and practitioners to develop innovative approaches to the making and interrogation of performance. It has provided a means by which practitioners in Wales and throughout the United Kingdom have been able to engage in dialogue about and through practice in an international context. Indeed CPR's championing of new work, allied with its rigorous engagement with traditions of theatre practice, have had a marked impact in shaping current academic concerns and theatre practice, shifting the paradigms by which live performance has been made and understood.

I wish you every success in your appeal against this decision.

Yours,

Tom
