To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing in urgent, unqualified support of the Centre for Performance Research and its continued funding at a level that is commensurate with its history, current standing and unique importance.
There is not another organisation that I know of anywhere in the world that is doing what CPR is doing – and what it is doing can not be done on the basis of occasional, project-based funding. CPR has an international reputation as an innovative organisation in performance research, practice and pedagogy interleaved with multiple areas of the arts and beyond. It is precisely its international scope and reach that has made it an invaluable resource – in human and material terms – for so many for so long. This scope and reach would have of course been impossible without the continuity of its growth and support in Wales and the peculiarity of that context and energy.
I respectfully urge the ACW to explore every possible avenue and find solutions for the provision of continued revenue funding for CPR.
Sincerely
Dr Barry Laing
